Board-approved Supervisor Training
Psychologists must have Board-approved Supervisor status to supervise clinicians undertaking certain pathways to registration and other programs. These include but aren’t limited to:
  • the 5+1 internship program
  • placements during an accredited higher degree program
  • the registrar program for area of practice endorsement
  • and the transitional program for overseas-qualified applicants

To become a Board-approved supervisor, the psychologist must have: 1) held general registration as a psychologist for at least three years, and 2) successfully completed full training with a Board-approved provider. This training involves three sequential components:
  • Part 1: self-directed online course
  • Part 2: two-day skills training workshop
  • Part 3: competency-based assessment.

In collaboration with C-Best, Fiona offers Part 2 (skills training workshop) and Part 3 (competency-based assessment). To enrol in the skills training workshop, psychologists must have completed Part 1 (self-directed online course) through another institution (e.g., the APS). Upon successful completion of Part 2, participants will be invited to enrol in Part 3.

Masterclass Refresher Training for Board-approved Supervisors
To maintain Board-approved Supervisor status, supervisors must complete refresher training at least once every 5 years. The minimum requirement for refresher training is completing a Board-approved Masterclass. C-Best offers a number of Masterclasses covering a range of topics to suit different interests and needs. In collaboration with C-Best, Fiona offers a Masterclass entitled:

Relationship in supervision: Creating a safe and effective space for supervisee growth and learning.

Workshop contents
  • The role of supervision in helping practitioners to develop their relationship competence. Supervision strategies for enhancing this competency, including experiential learning and modelling.
  • Relational factors influencing the supervisory relationship and how to manage challenges associated with power differentials, multiple roles, and supervisory alliance ruptures.
  • Creating a safe supervision space to combat supervisee anxiety, shame, and non-disclosure.

A combination of different learning techniques is used in the workshop, including lecture-style content presentation, small group discussions, supervision case analysis, and participant self-reflection. There is a strong emphasis on practical skill development and supervisor reflection.
